Facts about safety and security, the environment, health and medical issues and the economic impact of cruising are found on a new Cruise Lines International Association website, cruiseindustryfacts.com.

The site includes data and reports, facts at a glance, press releases and statements, news reports and a ‘What people are saying section' with comments from officials, experts and others cited in the media.

Speaking today at Seatrade Europe in Hamburg, CLIA evp Michael Crye told delegates about the new site during a session on regulatory challenges. He encouraged input and suggestions on content.

Noting that the site is North American-focused, Crye particularly welcomed additions from other regions.

‘We are attempting to take that information and continue to expand it and make it international and to give a more complete picture of the regulatory environment,' he said.

Crye made his comments in a session where several speakers said many in the mainstream media and the public have misperceptions about the cruise industry.

When it comes to environmental issues, ‘The industry has led the way, despite some press articles,' Allan Bently, director, Enviromar Consulting, told Seatrade Europe delegates.
